- I began my fire service career as a volunteer with the Sooke Fire Department Rescue Society in June 1980. September 1983 was the start of my firefighting service when I was accepted as a member of the fire department. Over the years I continued as a volunteer being promoted to Captain and Training Officer for the fire department. January 1997 was the start of my career as a firefighter when I was hired as a full-time firefighter and training officer. December 1999, Sooke was incorporated as a Municipality and the Sooke Fire Protection District was absorbed by the municipality making me the first full time employee in the new municipality. Shortly thereafter I was appointed Deputy Fire Chief and in the summer of 2009 I became the 15th Fire Chief for the department.
